Chicken chow mein is a classic Chinese dish consisting of stir-fried egg noodles with shredded chicken breast. You can also prepare with fish, meat, or vegetables to make fish chow mein, meat chow mein or vegetable chow mein. Since they are versatile, there are many different ways to cook them. They can be stir-fried, pan-fried, boiled, blanched, in soup or gravy, and even served dry.

Chicken Chow Mein Recipe with Noodles Ingredients

  • Egg Noodles … ¼ kg
  • Sesame Oil … 1 tbsp
  • Boneless Chicken Breasts, Shredded … 1 Cup
  • Groundnut Oil … 2½ tbsp
  • Garlic Cloves, Finely Chopped … 2
  • Light Soya Sauce … 2 tsp
  • Dark Soya Sauce … 2 tsp
  • White Pepper, Freshly Ground … ½ tsp
  • Caster Sugar … ½ tsp
  • Spring Onions, Finely Chopped … 2
  • Salt … 1 tsp

Ingredients for Chicken Marination

  • Salt … ½ tsp
  • Light Soya Sauce … 2 tsp
  • Sesame Oil … 1 tsp
  • Freshly Ground White Pepper … ½ tsp

Chicken Chow Mein Recipe with Noodles Cooking Steps

Step 1: Prepare noodles in a large pan of boiling water for around 3-5 mins. Drain and place in cold water for another 5 minutes.

Step 2: Now drain thoroughly and toss 1 tbsp of the sesame oil on it and set aside. The oil will prevent the noodles from sticking together.

Step 3: In a bowl, marinade the chicken with salt, soya sauce, sesame oil and white pepper. Leave it for around 10 minutes.

Step 4: Now take a wok, and heat the groundnut oil. Toss in the chicken shreds and stir-fry for 2 minutes. Set aside the chicken in a plate.

Step 5: Now reheat the same wok and add the sesame oil. Toss in the garlic and fry for few seconds till golden.

Step 6: Toss in the boiled noodles, dark soya sauce, light soya sauce, white pepper, sugar and salt. Stir-fry on medium heat.

Step 7: Add the fried chicken to the noodle mixture and keep on frying for another 3-4 minutes.

Finally add the spring onions and toss well. Serve immediately.
